Common Questions

Everything you might want to know before reaching out.

01Do you take my insurance?

I am out of network with insurance plans, so you pay the practice directly and can ask your plan to reimburse you. I do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. How fees work has the details.

02What is a superbill, and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt you can send to your plan. It carries a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether it pays you back and how much.

03What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive an estimate of what your care will cost before you start. I give you one in writing in advance. The estimate is not a contract.

04How much do sessions cost, and how do fees work?

Your fee is given to you in writing before you book. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are held; ask when you write to me.

05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. HSA and FSA cards work for sessions.

06What should I expect in the first session?

We get to know each other. We talk about what you want, what pace feels right and what you would rather leave alone for now. There is no pressure to go deep right away.

07How often and how long are sessions?

Sessions last 50 minutes. Many people meet weekly at first, and I do not promise a number of sessions. We set the rhythm together and check it often.

08Are you licensed where I live?

I am licensed in New York. For video sessions you need to be in New York State when we meet. The footer lists my license.

09What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. I do not monitor messages around the clock. The crisis and resources page has more.

10What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you tell me is confidential, with limits the law sets, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, or a report the law requires. I explain these limits at your first session.

11Do you see clients under 18?

No. My practice is for adults. If you are looking for care for a teen, write to me and I will help you look for a clinician who sees them.

12What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. Life happens, and I understand. If something comes up, write to me as early as you can.

Still have questions?

Write to me. I reply on weekdays.
